The Zoom Neurig joined Thomann's catalog on October 27. It is Zoom's entry into the field of neural models and amp captures that Neural DSP, IK Multimedia and Kemper already occupy, in a battery-powered floor unit.
What's inside
Zoom Neurig, $390
According to Thomann's listing, the Neurig runs a new engine Zoom calls DNA, short for Dynamic Neural Archive. It ships with 30 neural amp and pedal models, plus 22 conventional amp models, 22 cabinets and 139 effects, with up to 14 effects at once in series, parallel or split routing. #86 of 112 guitar multi effects.
Two details matter if you already play a modeler:
- NAM captures. The Neurig natively supports the NAM A2 Lite standard, so captures made in the free, open Neural Amp Modeler format can be loaded, not only Zoom's own models.
- Impulse responses. Up to 50 user IRs at up to 2,048 samples, for players who already have cabinet IRs they like.
Built to travel
The battery is a 2,900 mAh lithium-ion pack: about 4.5 hours of playing, about 3 hours to charge, or run it from any USB-C supply of 10 W or more. There is a 2-inch dual touchscreen, 300 presets, a 45-second looper, a tuner, Bluetooth audio, and a USB-C audio interface at 48 kHz. Connections: one input, stereo outputs, an effects send and return, MIDI in and out on 3.5 mm jacks, a headphone jack and an input for a Zoom footswitch or expression pedal. It weighs 850 g in a die-cast aluminium case.
How the price compares
The Neurig costs more than 85 of the 162 guitar multi-effects Thomann has in stock. Next to other modelers built around captures and profiles:
| Model | Price | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| IK Multimedia ToneX Pedal | $357 (€319) | Amp and pedal captures, 150 presets |
| Zoom Neurig | $390 (€349) | Neural models, NAM captures, full effects, battery |
| Boss GX-100 | $588 (€526) | 23 amp types, 150+ effects, 200 memories |
| Neural DSP Nano Cortex | $637 (€569) | 256 Neural Captures, 64 presets |
| Kemper Profiler Player | $669 (€598) | Kemper profiles and effects in a stompbox |
On paper, the Neurig covers more ground for its price than the capture-only pedals: models, captures, effects, looper and interface in one box. What nobody can tell from a listing is how its neural models sound next to Neural DSP's and Kemper's. That needs ears, not a spec sheet.
