A new electronic drum set costs from about $280 for a full beginner kit to more than $10,000 for a flagship. Of the 156 electronic kits Thomann had in stock in October 2026, a quarter cost less than $785, half cost less than $2,250, and 49 cost more than $4,000. That's higher than many expect: the median electronic kit costs more than twice the median complete acoustic kit (see how much a drum set costs).
For a beginner, $280 to $600 buys a complete kit that's quiet enough for an apartment. The next big step, to mesh heads that feel closer to real drums, comes at $500 to $600; above $2,000 you pay for better modules, more realistic cymbals and kits that look like acoustic drums.

Questions

$300 to $600. The Yamaha DTX402K costs $388; for mesh heads, the Alesis Nitro Max costs $538.
Are electric drums cheaper than acoustic drums?
At the entry level they cost about the same. On average they're more expensive: the median electronic kit costs about $2,250, the median complete acoustic kit about $1,000.

Yes, if you can afford them. They're quieter to hit and bounce back more like a real drumhead than rubber pads.
