A general guideline is to have the student hold the cello in playing position – their extended arm should comfortably reach the scroll without straining. A qualified teacher can provide a more precise assessment.

’Student’ models often feature improved varnish, better-quality woods, and a more refined overall construction compared to basic ‘beginner’ options, resulting in a better tone and playability.

While 3/4 cellos are primarily for children, some adults with proportionally smaller frames may find them comfortable, but it's essential to try before buying to ensure proper ergonomics and reach.
