Korg vs Roland vs Behringer: Korg wins workstations, Roland grooveboxes

Three synth brands, three strategies. Korg dominates big keyboards, Roland the grooveboxes, and Behringer fills the budget end and Eurorack. The #1 general synthesizer belongs to none of them.

If you buy something through a Thomann link, AudioFu may earn a commission. How we work.

Korg, Roland and Behringer sell synthesizers in almost every form at Thomann, from keyboards to desktop boxes. Where each one wins says a lot about the brand: Korg in big keyboards, Roland in grooveboxes, Behringer at the cheap end.

Questions

Which brand is best for a first synthesizer?
By price, Behringer or a small Korg: the TD-3 costs $106 and the Monologue $301. The MicroFreak, at $291, is the #1 synthesizer in our index.

Why does Behringer rank so high with such cheap gear?
Our index counts how many units of a model are for sale on Reverb, and cheap Behringer gear changes hands a lot. It also covers almost every Eurorack chart, so it collects many top-10 spots.

How we measured. All synthesizers Thomann listed as in stock on October 23, 2026, in its synthesizer department: 1,622 listings in 31 categories, including Eurorack modules, workstations and grooveboxes. Variants of the same model are grouped. A "top-10 spot" is a place in the top 10 of one of our 30 synthesizer rankings by the AudioFu Index. Prices are in euros, converted at the European Central Bank rate.
