Thomann is a family-owned German retailer of musical instruments, founded in 1954 in the Bavarian village of Treppendorf and grown into one of the biggest music stores in the world, selling mostly online. We're not neutral: AudioFu earns a commission on Thomann sales. But we can show something most reviews can't: what Thomann's prices actually did, every night, for two months.
What our price records show
Since August 17, 2026, we have recorded the price of every product in the part of Thomann's catalog we track, more than 38,000 instruments and pieces of gear. Comparing August 17 and October 18 (see Thomann by the numbers):
- 87% of products cost exactly the same after two months.
- 3,562 got cheaper and 1,296 more expensive: cuts outnumbered increases almost three to one.
- In the week to October 18, 270 of 383 price drops were real by our strict rules (the old price had held for two weeks and the new one was the lowest we had recorded). The rest were prices returning after a short rise.
That's the pattern of a store with stable list prices, not one that inflates prices to fake sales.
Thomann's own brands
About one in ten products we track (3,825 on October 19) carries one of Thomann's house brands, led by Harley Benton (guitars and basses), Thomann (pianos, wind instruments), Millenium (drums) and the t.bone (microphones). They're why Thomann is so cheap at the entry level.
Harley Benton TE-20, $100
A Telecaster-style guitar for about $100, typical of Thomann's own brands. #12 of 185 T style guitars.
Thomann UP 121 Piano, $3,347
Thomann's own upright, adjusted and tuned by its piano maker, sold with a 5-year Thomann warranty according to the product listing. #38 of 48 pianos.
What US buyers should check
- The final price. Our prices are Thomann's euro prices converted at the European Central Bank rate; shipping, taxes and any import fees show at checkout.
- Delivery time. Orders ship from Germany; allow extra time, especially before the holidays.
- Returns and warranty. Thomann lists its return period and warranty on its site; check them for your country before ordering large items.
- Voltage and plugs for amps and electronics: make sure the model is the US version or works on 120 V.
