Frequently Asked Questions

The SM57 is a classic for a reason, but the 440 DM offers a slightly more modern, less 'muddy' sound. The SM57's more aggressive character might be preferred for certain applications, but the 440 DM is more versatile overall.
While usable, it’s not ideal. The lower sensitivity and slightly brittle character won’t capture the warmth and nuance you’d get from a condenser mic, but it can work in a pinch with careful EQ.
A standard 5/8” thread mic stand will work perfectly – it's a pretty standard size and weight. Just make sure it’s sturdy enough to handle the vibrations if you’re miking a snare drum.
