The biggest driver of price is the metal: student flutes are nickel silver, the next step adds a sterling silver headjoint, and professional flutes are solid silver, handmade.
For a beginner, a good student flute costs $650 to $750. Intermediate flutes with a silver headjoint cost $1,300 to $2,000, and professional flutes start around $3,500.
How much does a flute cost for a beginner?
A beginner should start on a closed-hole flute with an offset G key, which is easier for small hands to cover. Yamaha's school model is the standard.
