The MK 2 S is a beautifully neutral, detailed omni – a real workhorse for stereo recording. Its placement near the reverb radius creates a wonderfully balanced image, and it’s a fantastic choice for acoustic instruments, room ambience, and anyone wanting a truly transparent sound. Perfect for serious engineers needing a versatile, high-quality omni capsule.

Product Description

Schoeps MK2 S Omni, Microphone CapsuleThe MK 2S exhibits a slight high-frequency emphasis for frontal sound incidence, with only a slight rolloff of high frequencies off axis and in the reverberant sound field.

This frequency response characteristic falls between that of the MK 2 and the MK 3, making the capsule suitable for a wide range of applications.

The MK 2S has proven particularly useful in two- and three-microphone stereo arrays, where its placement near the reverberation radius of the sound field presents a sonically balanced pickup favored by many recording engineers. This model has become our most popular pressure transducer.

Frequently Asked Questions

The MK 2 S has a slightly more pronounced high-frequency presence than the MK 2, offering a bit more air and detail, but still retaining a natural, uncolored tone.
It’s subtle but present; it can be beneficial for capturing clarity at moderate distances, but might require gentle EQ adjustments depending on the source and room.
This capsule shines in situations demanding high fidelity and accurate room representation, like classical music, acoustic ensembles, or critical vocal ambience – where the investment is justified by the sonic results.
