The Schagerl Ganschhorn heavy UL is a serious instrument for the experienced player who wants a rich, dark tone and the responsiveness of a rotary valve system. It's built like a tank and offers excellent projection, making it a great choice for lead players in professional ensembles or those seeking a distinctive, European-style sound.

Product Description

Schagerl Ganschhorn heavy UL, Bb Trumpet

The Ganschhorn was created in 2012 from Thomas Gansch's desire to combine the playing and tonal advantages of a rotary valve trumpet with the easier handling of a perinet trumpet.

  • To mark the company's 60th anniversary in 2021
  • the two Ganschhorn models (Standardweight and Heavyweight) underwent a thorough update
  • including minor improvements to the leadpipes
  • which are now permanently soldered into all horns
  • resulting in even more stable intonation and a more precise/direct response in all registers.
  • 3 Rotary valves
  • Gold brass bell: 132 mm
  • 0.45 mm Wall thickness
  • Bore: ML Heavy
  • Brass leadpipe with nickel silver outer sleeve
  • Unvarnished

*Note:* polished instrument that tarnishes over time and develops a significantly darker and matt finish.

PROS
  • • Gold brass bell delivers a warm, resonant, and projecting tone.
  • • ML Heavy bore provides exceptional stability and a dark, focused sound.
  • • Permanently soldered leadpipes improve intonation consistency across registers.
  • • Robust construction with 0.45mm wall thickness ensures durability and longevity.
CONS
  • • Unvarnished finish requires frequent polishing and maintenance.
  • • The 'Heavy' designation results in a substantial weight, impacting endurance.
  • • Rotary valve design may not appeal to players accustomed to piston valves.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Ganschhorn's rotary action feels exceptionally smooth and precise, with minimal 'slack' common in some older designs – Thomas Gansch really focused on improving that feel.
Expect to polish it regularly, maybe weekly or bi-weekly depending on your environment; it's part of the charm, but it does require more care than a lacquered horn.
The 'Heavy' bore, while offering a rich tone, demands more air support; it’s best suited for intermediate to advanced players who are comfortable with a larger bore.
