The dBooster2 is a clever little box, especially if you're working with ribbon or dynamic mics that need a bit of a lift. It's a clean gain stage with a subtle warmth that's really useful for adding some oomph without coloring the signal too much – perfect for vocalists, acoustic instruments, or anything needing a bit more headroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s not a direct substitute for a 1073; the dBooster2 offers a cleaner, more transparent gain boost, while the 1073 provides significant coloration and EQ. Think of the Royer as a refined boost, the Neve as a full tonal transformation.
While it’s powered by phantom power, the dBooster2 is primarily designed for ribbon and dynamic mics; using it with condensers isn’t inherently bad, but it’s not the intended application and might slightly alter the sonic character.
The 12dB setting offers a decent lift, but extremely low-output mics might still require a more powerful preamp for optimal recording levels. The 20dB setting will help significantly, but it’s not a miracle worker.
