It aims for a similar vibe, offering warmth and character, but lacks the extreme low-end punch and top-end detail of a true 1073. It's a very good approximation, though, and a more affordable way to get that classic preamp sound.
It's a respectable DI – certainly usable – but it's not a dedicated, boutique DI. It's a convenient bonus for occasional direct recording, not a replacement for a dedicated DI box.
The filter is surprisingly effective at cleaning up low-frequency rumble and proximity effect – a solid 12dB/octave slope that works well for vocals and instruments with boomy lows.
