The BF-3 is a solid upgrade from the BF-2, offering a wider range of flanging sounds with the added bonus of impressive stereo capabilities. It's a fantastic, budget-friendly choice for guitarists and bassists looking for a versatile flanger that can do everything from subtle thickening to jet-plane swooshes. It’s a workhorse pedal – simple, reliable, and sounds great.

Product Description

Boss BF-3, Effects Unit

The BOSS BF3 Flanger is the successor to the popular BF2 and so therefore has all the characteristics of its predecessor with a little something extra. All the official flanging sounds can be adjusted by the Depth, Width, Resonance (almost a kind of feedback control) and manual (by the change of the delay time the effect is changed) controls, making it really versatile. From subtle, chorus-like settings to the famous "jet-jet" sound, a variety of flanging sounds are possible.

  • The new modes (ultra and gate / pan) produce stereo sounds of impressive spatiality. Independent inputs for guitar and bass make the BF3 just as interesting for bass players
  • with an additional foot switch the speed of the effect can also be controlled in tap tempo mode. The BF3 is characterised by a very good signal-to-noise ratio.
  • The legacy of the legendary BF-2
  • The best Boss Flanging effects
  • New ultra- and gate / pan modes for ultra-fat flanging
  • Momentary mode
  • Tap tempo
  • Separate inputs for guitar and bass
  • Stereo outputs
  • Extremely low noise

PROS
  • • Improved BF-2 sound with refined resonance control
  • • Ultra mode offers truly expansive, swirling stereo effects
  • • Bass-friendly design with dedicated bass input impedance
  • • Rugged Boss construction ensures reliable performance for years
CONS
  • • Can sound overly 'synthetic' at extreme settings; lacks organic warmth

Frequently Asked Questions

While it has a bass input, it’s not as tailored as a bass-specific flanger; some low-end muddiness may require EQ adjustments.
It's more than simple feedback; it adds a characteristic 'whomp' and complexity to the flanger's character, influencing the overall tone significantly.
This mode creates a rhythmic, pulsating flanging effect by gating the signal and panning it between the stereo channels, adding a unique rhythmic texture.
