Sennheiser moved 36 prices at Thomann between October 24 and 27: 18 went down and 18 went up. Most of the movement happened inside one product line, Evolution Wireless Digital (EW-D), and it split by frequency range.
Every EW-D set comes in several versions that differ only in the radio frequency range they transmit on: R1-6, R4-9, Q1-6, S1-7, S7-10, U1/5 and Y1-3. The microphone, receiver and features are the same. Which range you can use depends on the country you play in, and until this week most versions of a set cost about the same.
What changed this week
- R1-6 versions got cheaper. The EW-D 845-S, 865, 935-S, 945-S and 965 sets in R1-6 each dropped by about €30, and so did the SKM-S Base handheld in R1-6 and R4-9.
- S7-10 versions got dearer. The same 845-S, 865, 935-S, 945-S, 965, 42-1-S and SKM-S Base in S7-10 went up by €30 to €50, each to its highest price since August.
The gap today, set by set
For each set, the cheapest and the most expensive version Thomann has in stock right now:
| Set | Cheapest range | Dearest range | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| EW-D 965 | R1-6: $1,117 (€998) | U1/5: $1,218 (€1,089) | €91 |
| EW-D 945-S | R1-6: $744 (€665) | U1/5: $845 (€755) | €90 |
| EW-D SKM-S Base | R1-6 and R4-9: $558 (€499) | U1/5: $659 (€589) | €90 |
| EW-D 845-S | R1-6: $643 (€575) | U1/5: $737 (€659) | €84 |
| EW-D 935-S | R1-6: $748 (€669) | U1/5: $838 (€749) | €80 |
| EW-D 835-S | S1-7: $637 (€569) | R1-6: $726 (€649) | €80 |
| EW-D 865 | R1-6: $816 (€729) | S7-10 and U1/5: $893 (€798) | €69 |
| EW-D 42-1-S | Q1-6: $793 (€709) | S7-10: $849 (€759) | €50 |
One exception to watch: on the basic EW-D 835-S set, R1-6 is the most expensive version, not the cheapest.
Sennheiser EW-D 965 R1-6, $1,115
The top handheld set with the condenser capsule, in the range that got cheaper this week. #23 of 82 wireless handheld microphone systems.
Sennheiser EW-D 865 R1-6, $814
The same system with a condenser 865 capsule. #17 of 82 wireless handheld microphone systems.
Before you buy
Pick the range first, the set second. Sennheiser publishes which ranges are allowed in which country, and a version you can't legally use is no bargain. If more than one range works where you play, the table above shows how much choosing the right one saves. Several R4-9 and S1-7 versions are out of stock at the moment, and four R4-9 handheld sets left Thomann's catalog this week.
Other Sennheiser prices
- Down: the XSW-D Instrument Base Set to $301 (€269), the EW-DP ME4 lavalier set to $614 (€549), the e 604 drum mic three-pack to $340 (€304) and the MKH 8018 stereo shotgun to $2,083 (€1,862).
- Back up: the ew IEM G4 in-ear system in the G band, from €902 to €1,049, after a short cut.
