12-strings are notoriously harder on the fingers. Neck profile, action, and string gauge all play a huge role. A thick neck and high action will be a brutal experience, even for seasoned players.

Solid tops (usually Spruce or Mahogany) are the goal for better resonance and aging. Laminate tops are common at this price point and will sound more 'contained' - fine for practice, less ideal for recording. Bracing patterns significantly affect the sound too.
