The SSL-4 RW/RP is a seriously hot single-coil – it's like a vintage Strat pickup on steroids. This is a fantastic upgrade for players who want a fatter, more aggressive sound, especially for rock, blues, or even heavier styles. The reverse wound/reverse polarity is a huge bonus for noise reduction, too.

Product Description

Seymour Duncan SSL-4 RW/RP, Single Coil Pickup

The Quarter Pounder (the name actually comes from the 1/4" flat pole pieces), comes with proper Extraportion Power. Approximately double the output power of a conventional ST style pickup, this ensures that you can bring any amp into fleshy distortion without the addition of further equipment, and enjoy a fat, yet clear sound. Thanks to the reverse wound / reverse polarity, those troublesome background noises fall away when used in combination with a normal wound pickup. The SSSL-4 comes without a pickup cover.

, For ST style guitars, Reverse wound / reverse polarity without cover

PROS
  • • Increased output delivers a powerful, saturated tone without external overdrive.
  • • Reverse wound/reverse polarity eliminates hum when combined with standard pickups.
  • • Quarter-pounder flat pole screws provide a tighter, more focused low-end response.
  • • Alnico 5 magnet delivers a balanced, articulate tone with a pleasing warmth.
CONS
  • • Lacks a pickup cover, requiring separate purchase or DIY solution.
  • • Higher output may be overwhelming for players seeking a truly vintage, scooped sound.
  • • Flat pole screws can slightly reduce string flexibility compared to rounded ones.

It’s significantly hotter, roughly double the output. Expect more sustain and a thicker tone, almost like a mini-humbucker.
While it excels with overdrive, it can still produce usable clean tones, but the increased output adds a noticeable edge and a slightly compressed feel.
You'll get a phase-shifted, somewhat hollow but still useful tone. It's a unique sound, but requires experimentation to find its sweet spot.
