The Supercomp is a refined take on the legendary Dynacomp, adding that crucial sensitivity knob. It’s a workhorse for tightening up rhythm parts, adding sustain, and giving your leads some serious punch - especially good for rock, blues, and country players who want that classic, transparent compression without fuss.

Product Description

MXR Supercomp M132, Stomp Box

For all types of devices there are some classics which are used repeatedly over decades and over the time reach genuine cult status. When it comes to compressors for guitar and bass, one effect is necessary to be mentioned, and that is clearly the MXR Dynacomp. As often as this device has been used in professional and already legendary recordings, it is actually unnecessary to say more. The Supercomp goes a step further. While the Dynacomp only uses two knobs, the new Supercomp uses another knob!

  • The sensitivity knob is used to set the compression threshold
  • the final volume is then determined with the output knob. The attack knob determines the time at which the signal is compressed. The Supercomp simply does not need more knobs
  • because everything is set so guitars and basses sound compact and crisp. Of course you can also extend the sustain significantly with more extreme settings; what else do you need?
  • Compressor
  • Knobs for output
  • attack level and sensitivity (ratio)
  • Bypass mode
  • Indicator LED
  • Power supply via 9V battery (not included) or optional AC adapter
PROS
  • • Improved sensitivity control offers far more nuanced compression shaping.
  • • Attack time adjustment provides a wider range of sonic textures, from subtle to aggressive.
  • • Robust, all-metal enclosure ensures exceptional durability for stage and studio use.
  • • Classic MXR build quality: reliable, consistent performance over years of use.
CONS
  • • Can be overly aggressive if attack and sensitivity aren’t dialed in carefully.
  • • Lacks a blend control, limiting ability to retain dry signal character.
  • • Limited versatility compared to more modern, feature-rich compressors.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Supercomp builds upon the Dynacomp's core functionality, offering more precise control over the compression threshold, making it easier to dial in a subtle or aggressive effect.
Absolutely, the Supercomp works very well on bass, providing a solid foundation and adding sustain, but be mindful of the attack setting to avoid a muddy low end.
It's generally considered quite transparent, but aggressive settings can introduce a slight 'squash' characteristic – it’s more about shaping dynamics than radically altering your core tone.
