The Fullbore Metal is a focused distortion pedal built for modern metal tones. It delivers a raw, aggressive sound with a powerful mid-boost for cutting through the mix, making it ideal for players seeking a dedicated high-gain distortion solution without the complexity of a multi-effects unit. It's a budget-friendly way to get a seriously heavy sound.

Product Description

MXR M116 Fullbore Metal, Effects PedalThe MXR Distortion was one of the first sensible-sounding Distortions in the early 70's and to this day sounds good for many types of sound.

But modern times will not make the MXR redundant, and so the MXR Distortion M116 Fullbore Metal is a (if required) metallic-sounding knallhartes Metal Distortion unit with which you can make guitar sounds glow.

At the heart of the pedal is the sweepable mid control. Here the lava frequency can be searched for and mercilessly boosted; but of course tamer frequencies can also be selected (lowering works as well). The Fullbore Metal is therefore also versatile in all kinds of healthy hardness.

  • Metal Distortion
  • EQ controller with Bass
  • sweepable Mid-Freq and Treble head
  • Volume and gain control
  • Power supply via a 9 V battery (Article #132579#) or 9 V power supply (Article #409939#) (both not included)
PROS
  • • Sweepable mids offer incredible tonal sculpting for modern metal sounds.
  • • Gain range is substantial, delivering everything from crunch to extreme distortion.
  • • MXR's robust build quality ensures durability for gigging musicians.
  • • Compact footprint saves pedalboard space without sacrificing functionality.
CONS
  • • High gain settings can become muddy without careful EQ adjustments.
  • • Limited versatility beyond high-gain metal and rock applications.
  • • True bypass isn't included, which might introduce slight tone coloration.

Frequently Asked Questions

It's integrated, so you get a single control for shaping your mids, but it lacks the precise control of a dedicated mid-boost. It’s a good compromise for convenience.
It’s designed for humbuckers, and will absolutely shine with them; single coils will work, but you'll likely need to dial back the gain to avoid excessive noise and fizz.
It's subtle, but the buffering can help maintain signal strength over long cable runs, which is generally a good thing for high-gain distortion.
