Product Description

Fender Tex Mex Pu Set, Electric Guitar Pickup Set

It is fairly safe to say that the Fender Stratocaster is the most widely used electric guitar in the world, and virtually no other guitar can rival the level of scope for customisation that the Stratocaster provides. It should therefore come as no surprise that Fender also offers an extensive range of different pickups.

The Fender Tex Mex pickup is manufactured in Mexico and comes in an extremely budget-friendly set of three. As its name suggests, this pickup is designed to deliver a vintage Strat sound with added power and a higher output than the original, very much along the lines of Fender’s Texas Special pickups. This pickup can be found in guitars such as the Jimmie Vaughan Tex-Mex Strat.

  • Single coil
  • Staggered
  • Set of 3 pickups
  • Reverse wound middle pickup
  • Characteristics: The similarity to Fender's Texas Special pickups is undeniable - plenty of Strat power
  • but still a vintage pickup through and through!
  • Great value for money
PROS
  • • Delivers a hotter, more aggressive vintage Strat tone than stock pickups.
  • • Alnico 5 magnets provide a balanced, articulate sound with strong output.
  • • Mexican manufacturing keeps the price point surprisingly affordable for Fender quality.
  • • Staggered design improves string clarity and reduces microphonic noise.
CONS
  • • May be too high output for players seeking a very mellow, scooped Strat tone.
  • • While well-built, the materials aren't quite as premium as Texas Special pickups.
  • • Can exhibit a slight mid-range honk, potentially requiring EQ adjustments.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Tex Mex pickups offer a similar vibe but are generally slightly hotter and have a touch more midrange presence than the Texas Specials, all at a more budget-friendly price.
Yes, the standard Stratocaster mounting pattern ensures compatibility, but consider your other modifications; very high-gain setups might find them a bit too aggressive.
While all single coils have inherent noise potential, the staggered design and Alnico 5 magnets help minimize microphonics and noise compared to some other vintage-style pickups.
