The DiMarzio "Steve's Special" is a Humbucker, which was developed by Steve Blucher one of DiMarzio Pickup technicians. Steve wanted a special distortion pickup, the especially leaves treble and bass alive. Therefore, the "Steve's Special" is particularly suited for amps that have their strengths in the mid range; exactly where typical distortion pickup quickly sound too centred. Even the presently popular "scooped mids" sound is especially emphasized with these pickups!
