Product Description

Boss FZ-5, Fuzz PedalClassic sounds thanks to the most modern technology!

There has long been a whole gaping in the BOSS pedal range: No fuzz pedal!

Thanks to Roland/Boss's years of modelling experience (it is the first company to have worked with Digital Modeling, the VG-8 Virtual Guitar System 1995), these three sounds are different from the originals in only one aspect: the price is much lower!

  • 3 Vintage sound modes of the 60s & 70s
  • COSM technology
  • BOOST control for more distortion and sustain
  • Controls: Fuzz
  • Mode
  • Level

  • Weight: 400 g
PROS
  • • Excellent recreation of classic fuzz tones, surprisingly authentic for a modelling pedal.
  • • BOOST control adds significant versatility, from subtle grit to full-on chaos.
  • • Boss’s renowned build quality ensures durability for gigging and studio use.
  • • Compact size and pedalboard-friendly design makes integration easy.
CONS
  • • COSM modelling, while good, lacks the unpredictable charm of true vintage fuzz circuits.
  • • Limited to three fuzz types; lacks the breadth of some multi-fuzz options.
  • • The 'Octavia' mode can sound a little thin and artificial compared to a dedicated Octavia.

Frequently Asked Questions

COSM aims to replicate the nuances of vintage fuzz circuits, but it's a digital interpretation—you'll get the core sound, but some of the unpredictable quirks are smoothed out.
The BOOST primarily increases volume, but it also subtly thickens the tone and adds sustain, making it useful for leads or pushing your amp.
It’s a very good approximation, especially considering the price, but a true vintage circuit will have more organic interaction with your guitar and amp, plus a bit more unpredictable character.
