The DS-2 is a solid, affordable workhorse for heavier rock and metal. It's a step up from a basic overdrive, delivering a crunchy distortion that’s perfect for rhythm parts and aggressive lead lines. If you need a reliable, no-fuss distortion pedal that can handle a beating, this is a great option.

Product Description

Boss DS-2 Distortion, Guitar Effects Pedal

The BOSS DS 2 is an enhanced version of the already classic of the genre, the DS 1. It delivers this time - in comparison to the legendary overdrive pedals from BOSS - a considerably rougher and more aggressive distortion, which is clearly oriented towards the British amp stack sound, yet still far away from the earlier rather toneless fuzz distortion of the past. In addition, the DS-2 has a second mode that enables yet more aggressive sounds. You can use both options live, as there is an extra jack for a foot switch with which to switch between modes. Extremely flexible!

  • Distortion
  • 2 Sound modes for a wide spectrum for distortion
  • From distorted riff-rock via earthy rock sounds
  • up to to singing lead sounds
  • Turbo mode can also be activated via an additional footswitch on the remote jack (Foot switch not included)
  • Power consumption: 12 mA
  • Powered with a 9V battery or a 9V DC power supply (coaxial connector - negative terminal inside - not included in delivery
  • e.g. Article Nr #409939#)
  • Dimensions (WxDxH): 73 x 129 x 59 mm
  • Weight: 400 g
PROS
  • • Offers a more aggressive distortion than the DS-1, closer to British amp tones.
  • • Dual modes provide flexibility for different playing styles and tonal needs.
  • • Foot switch jack allows for seamless mode switching during live performances.
  • • Boss’s renowned robust build quality ensures lasting durability for gigging.
CONS
  • • Can be overly harsh and fizzy for players seeking subtle overdrive.
  • • Lacks the nuanced response and articulation of higher-end distortion pedals.
  • • The 'Turbo' mode can quickly become overwhelming for many genres.

Frequently Asked Questions

The DS-2 is significantly more aggressive and focused on a British distortion tone, while the DS-1 is more of a general-purpose overdrive.
The Turbo mode boosts gain and treble, which can be great for high-gain sounds, but it can also become overly harsh and lose clarity if not used carefully.
While it works best with a slightly overdriven amp, the DS-2 can still produce usable sounds with a clean amp, though the results will be more limited.
